We discussed what causes world conflicts (reviewing nbk. p. 74).  We also discussed if conflict is always bad…?!?

All Periods:

            We then brainstormed all of the causes of the 1st Crusade.  Students chose their favorite 3 causes to research for the CBA.

            We began to fill-out our note packet for the CBA.  We went to the library and began to research one of the causes of the 1st Crusade.  We will continue with our research tomorrow.

Due Today:  History:  Period 2 only: SHOW Mrs. Claassen nbk. p. 72 - 10 Causes

                                                                                of Conflict in your own life for points.

                                          Periods 1, 2 & 4: SHOW Mrs. Claassen nbk. p. 74 – 5 Causes

                                                                                    of Conflict in the WORLD for points.

                   Exploratory:  None

* Class Work - History:

All Periods:

            On nbk. p. 76, create a review page about who was involved in the 1st Crusade (Western Europe, Byzantine Empire, Islamic Empire).  I put an example of these notes on the front white board.  Make sure you copy these notes into your notebook!  You want to be prepared for your future notebook check, and you are not excused from these notes.

            If you have not already done so, please make your title page on nbk. p. 75.  It should say, “Chapter 10 The Crusades.”

Period 2 only:

            We identified the causes of conflict in everyday activities.  For example, when people are fighting over the TV remote, the conflict is not actually over the remote.  The conflict is actually about POWER or being selfish to want the best for ourselves.

            Tonight’s assignment:  On nbk. p. 74, list and describe 5 causes of conflict in the world.  These conflicts may have nothing to do with you.  They may be conflicts between countries, towns, groups, races, religions, etc…!  Make sure you don’t tell me a specific conflict (don’t write “World War II”), but rather the cause of conflict.  An example of an appropriate answer might be to describe why people have conflict over LAND.  In addition, do not write “war” as a cause of conflict.  Think about the cause of the start of a war…

Periods 1, 3 & 4:

We briefly previewed chapter 9 to get a better understanding about the amazing details of the Islamic Empire.  You may want to page through this chapter and look at the pictures and captions to help you understand this group for the CBA.

We discussed what causes world conflicts (reviewing nbk. p. 74).  We also discussed if conflict is always bad…?!?

* Class Work - Exploratory:

Today we reviewed the 7 continents of the world.  On nbk. p. 28, please write the names of all 7 continents.  Be sure to capitalize and spell correctly.  On nbk. p. 29, attach the world map.  Label all 7 continents correctly.  Color each continent a different color.

You will have a quiz over the 7 continents tomorrow.  Please study.

We also discussed the Roman city of Pompeii in reference to yesterday’s discussion of mountains and volcanoes.  Sorry you missed this discussion!

On nbk. p. 72, list and describe 10 conflicts in your own life. These conflicts do not need to be big conflicts. It is appropriate to say that there is conflict when your Mom reminds you to clean your room and you don’t want to, that you argue over who gets the last donut, or that each member of your family wants to watch a different TV show so you argue over the remote control. This list will be checked tomorrow.
