We reviewed our chapter 3 test about the Roman Catholic Church in Medieval Times today.  If you were absent today, your test was put away in your old notebook.  If you would like to see it, ask Mrs. Claassen to get it out.

            Example Question:  If girls were 15 years old when they married, how old was a boy when he got married? 

            Example Concern:  I am worried about the fact that about half of children did not make it to adulthood during the middle ages.  This makes me sad.

            Example Connection: My brother is 7 years old.  I can’t imagine him beginning to train for his life job at that age!

We finished reviewing some of our research skills and citing a resource in a sentence.  One of your previous practice papers was returned to give you feedback on how you are doing in the citing research process.  Please look over this feedback.  (Attach the returned paper to nbk. p. 15.)  Your worksheet on Encyclopedia and Webpath research is due tomorrow.  See me if you have questions about research.  At the end of chapter 4, all students will be completing an essay to count as their chapter 4 test grade.

We went to the library today.  We labeled a map with some of the countries of Eastern Europe.  Please label the countries on the map.  Spelling and capitalization as well as correct location count!  Please be careful.  You will later have a test over these countries.  We will review the countries on a later day.  In the library, students used the following website to help them study.

Today we continued to learn about research skills with our research  from the library on Tuesday.  We reviewed the encyclopedia information.  We completed the paragraph portion at the bottom of the page (According to, etc…)  We then continued to work on the webpath portion in class.

Students completed an exit task wkst.  This exit task included Practice about research from the textbook (4.3).  If you were absent today, you DO need to complete this worksheet to show your learning about research writing.  See Mrs. Claassen for help filling this out.

Today we began to learn about research skills and how to use resources in in an essay.  To do this, we completed a wkst. about a silly example of research.  You are excused from this example.

Then we began to use work with our research  from the library yesterday.  We worke on the encyclopedia information.  We completed the paragraph portion at the bottom of the page (According to, etc…)  We will work on the webpath portion tomorrow.

We up-dated our notebooks today.  Please attach the returned papers to your OLD notebook.  Attached is a list of what pages where you should place the work in your notebook.  You have a test over chapter 3 on Friday.  Many of these returned papers will help you study.  In addition, we will soon have a notebook check.  Please make sure these assignments have been placed in your notebook!

Today we practiced our research skills with both encyclopedias and webpath in the library.  We completed a worksheet.  We will be using this worksheet and research in class tomorrow.  If you were absent today, you can use the class examples tomorrow to help you.  You must still fill-out the worksheet.

Finish reading 4.3 about Guilds and finish your Cornell notes.  (Periods 1 & 4 finished the notes on Friday.) Get a copy of the chapter from the side counter, and read the information.  Take notes as you go.  Set-up your Cornell notes on nbk. p. 9 (new notebook).  Periods 1 & 4 should also chunk and title the 4.3 notes.  Periods 2 &3 will chunk and title at a later date.

            Topic: 4.3 Guilds

            Essential Question: What was a guild and what are at least 3 things it controlled?

 

Students have an assignment about Guild Signs tonight.  Please attach the Guild Signs worksheet to nbk. p. 8.  Write AT LEAST 8 brainstorm ideas in the brainstorm box.  If you need help coming up with ideas, see Mrs. Claassen.  Create a guild sign as homework.  There should be no words or numbers on the sign.  Make sure you color your guild sign,  (Do not copy one of the examples at the top of the assignment – create your own!)

We worked on learning to use an encyclopedia for research today.  Students explored encyclopedias and learned how to use them.  Tomorrow we will go to the library to use encyclopedias in our research about medieval towns.
