Essential Question: How did medieval towns grow, and why were some towns not part of a feudal manor?

Tonight’s assignment is a 4.2 Response (below).  Please attach the directions to nbk. p. 6.  Then answer all 4 questions in full sentences.  Include details.  Please number your answers 1-4 so that I can clearly see your answers.

4.2 Response

After purchasing a charter, your town is now finally independent from the rule of a monarch, noble, or high-ranking Church official.  You town must make a few decisions to re-structure your government and laws.

Make a simple list, answering the following questions.  Write in full sentences, and give details as to why your answers would be the best ideas.  Be prepared to convince your fellow townsfolk that your ideas would work!

            1. Now that we no longer have a monarch, noble or Church official telling us what to do, who should guide us?  How will we pick that person or group of people?

            2. We still need to collect taxes to help our town run.  What would be a fair way to collect taxes, and how much should people be expected to pay?

            3. Once taxes are collected, how should the town spend the tax money?

            4. Now that we can make our own laws, what are two laws that we absolutely MUST have in our town?

All classes are working on Stations about the Roman Catholic Church (Chapter 3).  Students are working with assigned partners.  If you were absent today, you MAY NOT COPY what your partner did while you were gone.  When you return, you will begin the station work where your partner left off.  Your partner is not allowed to tell you the answers you missed.  You will need to complete your own make-up work.

Please remember to see Mrs. Claassen often during the stations process.  Mrs. Claassen will check and sign your work as you go.  That way you can correct any mistakes right away and earn a large 100% on this project!

Stay aware of upcoming work.  We will have a notebook test on Thursday (1/16) of this week.  You will need an updated notebook to be prepared.  If you have any missing work, you will want to take care of that right away.  We will be returning papers and updating notebooks on Tuesday, January 14th.

We read over all of chapter 3.  Students will be completing stations over this material next week.  However, a quick intro read will be helpful in gaining background information on the topics.  Please pick-up a copy of the chapter off of the back counter and read sections 3.3 – 3.8.

We completed the station 3.6 on Education in Medieval Times as a whole class.  This station is a bit difficult, so we completed it whole group.  If you were absent for any part of this station you may NOT copy the information from a friend.  You must read the section and complete the worksheet yourself.  If you have any problems, please ask Mrs. Claassen for help.  I would be glad to explain it to you!

  1. Go to the Moses Lake School District Website:  www.moseslakeschools.org
  2. On the left side of the site, click “Destiny School Library Access”
  3. Select Chief Moses Middle School
  4. Click on “Catalog” near the top.
